Epic Seals: Inkan-Hanko Odyssey
LIKE FORGOTTEN RITUALS OF A MODERN TOKYO, THE SEALS PRESERVE FRAGMENTS OF MEMORY.
In Epic Seals: Inkan-Hanko Odyssey, Hiro Ando transforms the traditional Japanese personal seal into a contemporary sculptural symbol balancing heritage, identity, and Neo-Pop aesthetics. Through Samuraicat and minimalist circular forms inspired by the hanko and inkan, Ando explores the dialogue between memory, individuality, and contemporary visual culture. Blending Japanese symbolism with manga influences and contemporary design language, the series reflects how identity evolves within an image-driven global society. Black and silver variations reinforce the tension between tradition and modernity, discipline and playfulness. Each sculpture functions as both a cultural imprint and a contemporary icon, revealing Hiro Ando’s ability to merge Japanese heritage with contemporary sculptural mythology.
